MTA-New York City Transit to Discontinue Acceptance of Paper Vouchers Starting in 2007
TransitChek Voucher Will Continue to Be Accepted by All Other Transit Operators
August 3, 2006 - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has made the decision to discontinue acceptance of paper TransitChek® Vouchers by New York City Transit (NYCT) station clerks for MetroCard® purchases as of January 1, 2007. The TransitChek MetroCard will continue to be accepted by NYCT, as will the new TransitChek® CardTM, which can be used at MTA MetroCard Vending Machines.
This decision by the MTA only affects TransitChek participants who purchase MetroCards with Vouchers at subway station booths. TransitChek Vouchers will continue to be accepted by participating MetroCard retail vendors. In addition, TransitChek Vouchers will continue to be accepted by all other operators including MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Metro-North Railroad, NJ Transit and PATH. Those who currently use TransitChek Vouchers for New York City Transit subways and buses can continue to do so through December 31, 2006.
TransitCenter is informing its customers of this development and will be working to smoothly transition affected employees to other TransitChek products. TransitCenter's priority is to ensure that all TransitChek participants have uninterrupted access to their tax-free commuter benefits.
For 20 years, TransitCenter has advanced commuter benefits to meet the evolving needs of employers and commuters, and keep pace with the changing face of mass transit. Products like the TransitChek MetroCard and new TransitChek Card provide greater speed and convenience to commuters as transit systems across the country increasingly adopt electronic systems to purchase transit fares.
