At one time, Philadelphia was filled with over 200 trolleys, which were called “surface” cars to distinguish them from subway cars, because they also ran in the subway. Subway-Surface trolleys still run through Center City, along with the Market-Frankford and the Broad Street subway lines, all of which meet up with Amtrak and regional rail lines at 30th Street.
From 30th Street Station, the main railroad station in Philadelphia, travelers can access Center City by rail, bus, subway, or trolley. Philadelphia is a hub for major railroads, including Amtrak. PATCO is rail service between Philadelphia and Lindenwold, N.J., and New Jersey Transit provides service back and forth to Philadelphia.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) provides scheduled domestic and international air service, and Northeast Philadelphia Airport provides general and corporate aviation.
