San Francisco has the most extensive public transit system on the West Coast and a wide variety of transit options. 35% of the city's population use public transit as part of their daily commute, which gives San Francisco one of the highest ridership rates in the nation.

San Francisco's iconic, manually operated cable car system is the last in the world to still operate on a permanent basis. The cable car system is run by Muni (San Francisco Municipal Railway), which also operates the F Market heritage streetcar line.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) connects citizens of San Francisco to the East Bay and the San Francisco International Airport, a major international airport hub.
