The nation's capital is one of the easiest cities to navigate by transit. With one of the most efficient public transportation systems in the country serviced by Metrorail (subway) and Metrobus, public transportation gives easy access to the district's many neighborhoods and attractions.
The "Metro" nickname applies to both the bus and commuter rail systems of Washington, D.C., which also runs to the suburbs of Maryland and Virginia. The busiest Metro station is Metro Center, where three subway lines intersect.
The commuter rail system runs both underground and on elevated tracks, from a hub and spoke pattern out of the city and into the suburbs. It consists of Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow, and Green Lines.
Yellow and Blue Lines travel to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. “Reagan” is located in Arlington County, Virginia. Express bus service runs to Dulles International Airport, located in Dulles, Virginia.
