TransitChek News & Updates
April 2010

Commuters on NJ TRANSIT should note the announcement of a proposed 25% fare increase effective May 1, 2010. NJ TRANSIT has posted details, including new fares and an explanation of possible service cuts, on its website.
If your company doesn’t currently offer a commuter benefits program like TransitChek, consider implementing one to help your employees save money. Each enrolled employee could save up to $1,000 a year or more* on their commutes, offsetting some of the cost of the fare increase, and your company will save on payroll taxes. To find out more, visit www.transitchek.com/employers.
The TransitChek® Basic program allows employers flexibility and control in the way they provide commuter benefits to their employees. A wide selection of products, denominations and an easy-to-calculate, online order form helps employers meet the needs of employees who commute in a variety of ways.
Pamela Moore administers the TransitChek Basic program for MetSchools, a series of eight private schools in the New York area. Each month she orders products for school employees and distributes them to the Business Managers at each of the eight schools in the network.
“TransitChek is great because of the tax savings and convenience,” Ms. Moore explained. “All our employees use mass transit and come all over the New York metro area, from Long Island, New Jersey, Staten Island, and Westchester. They use virtually all the local transit agencies.”
Ms. Moore went on to note an increase of participation in the TransitChek Basic program when the transit cap increased to $230 per month in March 2009. “More people enrolled when the cap increased, and many now take advantage of the full $230.” Ms. Moore said. “It’s a huge savings, especially for those coming from further away, like Long Island.”
An additional bonus for Ms. Moore’s employees is the flexibility of the TransitChek Basic program: “Unlike some other benefits, employees can start immediately upon hire – we provide savings information to all new hires, so most sign up immediately -- and once they start, they stay enrolled.”
Ms. Moore added, “It’s helping a lot of people. “My employees love the convenience of TransitChek – they appreciate that it helps them save time and money.”
Metrolink, a commuter rail service in Southern California including Los Angeles, now accepts TransitChek products. If any of your employees currently commuting using Metrolink services, they will be able to pay for their rides using the TransitChek QuickPay® Card, TransitChek® Card, both prepaid Visa® cards*; or TransitChek® Vouchers effective immediately.
